SLOVENE AMERICAN CLUB
P. O. Box 517, Allen Park, Michigan 48101
313-383-9365

Don't let the name fool you.  Members of the SAC
come from various ethnic backgrounds and all are welcome.
The former clubhouse was sold and we now hold all our activities and events at the
Pvt. John Lyskawa VFW hall at 6828 Waverly, Dearborn Heights, Michigan.

The SAC is known for its music:
the buttonbox/accordion club meets
every Friday night in the Pub Room at the VFW hall.  I always say
that you can't get a better evening of entertainment for the price - FREE!
Our Friday evening music jam is led by Ken Dowling, Herb Schroeder, and Mike Masten;
Regular musicians who come from far and wide are Bonnie Weber, Marty Gazarek, Walt Murzin,
Rob Deblander, Karl Preiss, Floyd Schlukebier, Marty Raab, Syl Weinclaw (drummer), and Mary Lou Downs.
Many other musicians drop by from time to time to join in the fun.

The SAC also puts on dances several times a year with bands from Michigan and Ohio,
and the friendship, good food, and laughter make this a wonderful venue.
THIS IS OUR VERY OWN "CHEERS" BAR!

On August 10, 2019, the SAC held their "Indoor Picnic" in conjunction with the Lyskawa VFW and the Knights of Columbus.  Part of the contribution on the part of the SAC was music for the afternoon.  The music started off with the Good Times Band (which is comprised of Herb Schroeder, Mike Masten, Ken Dowling, Eddie Adamic (out of retirement for the afternoon) and Kurt Schroeder on drums.  This was followed by Millie's Polka Band with Millie Okopal and Bonnie Weber leading.

The final music contribution of the afternoon was the SAC button box/accordion club.  In addition to the members mentioned above, additional musicians were Syl Weinclaw, Walt Murzin, Andy Miinch, John Puhl and me, Mary Lou Downs.  In spite of the fact that it was free admission, free barbeque lunch and desserts, free beer, popcorn and snacks, and fantastic door prizes, attendance was not what it should have been.  We would have loved to see more kids and young adults because it is getting harder for some seniors to attend the functions and we want to keep these things going.  Part of the problem is that we were competing with the Frankenmuth Summer MusicFest as many of our members and followers were going to that venue.  It was, however, a really fun afternoon and the music was wonderful!
