THERE WILL BE NO MORE POLKA JAMS IN GILCHRIST PARK,
PUNTA GORDA, FLORIDA. WE HAD A LOT OF FUN WHILE IT LASTED BUT DUE TO CHANGES IN THE PARK LAYOUT AND REQUIREMENTS BY THE CITY WE CAN NO LONGER PLAY AT THAT LOCATION.
THE JAMS IN PUNTA GORDA AT GILCHRIST PARK ARE FINISHED.
We have been playing every Thursday afternoon (weather permitting) from 4:00 to 5:30PM in February and March for many years! We played those favorite Cleveland-style polkas and waltzes that everybody loves. Musicians came from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, New York, Florida, and Ontario - and sometimes parts beyond - just to jam and have fun! The weather for the most part was absolutely beautiful with sunshine, warm temps, and a light breeze blowing off the Peace River. It doesn't get any better than palm trees and polkas so we will miss the wonderful venue and the people who came out to enjoy the music.
Florida snowbirds who enjoy polka music came to roost at Gilchrist Park in Punta Gorda every Thursday at 4:00PM in February and March for many years (weather permitting). They brought lawn chairs, sat back and relaxed while watching the palm trees sway and the sun sink slowly over the beautiful Peace River to the sound of accordions, button boxes, banjo and keyboard. Organized and led by Pete Oberson and John Gerl, this was a real treat in a wonderful setting. Polkas and palm trees - what a good time we had!
